When preparing for Hurricane Irma, it may be wise to look at how Texans helped each other in the aftermath of Harvey. Houston wasn't the only city to be hit and suffer flooding. Several communities were damaged by Harvey. During the disaster, victims sent out pleas for help on social media and were answered in real time. Rescue workers were photographed helping victims. Some particular photographs sparked comments. One was a white worker carrying black children, another was a black worker carrying two white children. The comments were that these moments would make for great statues to replace the ones that were recently taken down. When recovering from a disaster, it helps to remember this, that communities can rely on each other to survive.
